Abita App for iPhone

So Abita Brewing just released an iPhone app that allows its user to find stores, restaurants and bars that sell Abita. So basically it's an app that won't sell in Louisiana. You could basically close you eyes and walk blindly down the street and find a place that sells Abita here in Louisiana.

Either way for those that can't find Abita that well it's a pretty cool app. It allows you to choose the type of Abita beer you are looking for and will tell you the closest places to find that beer. Very cool! Now if Abita would just start bottling their Select Series!

Cheers!

Review: Craft Beer Club

Recently I was contacted by Wesley Griffin, who is one of the folks over at Beer Universe, about Craft Beer Club which is a Beer of the Month style club. They wanted me to try out Craft Beer Club and let them and you know what I thought.

So yes they wanted to send me free beer and have me tell you, my faithful readers, what I thought. Now I'll be honest I've never done a beer in the mail type club before because I like to have control over the beers I buy but I've received two packages so far and I must say I've been pretty happy. Both packages had beers I'd never tried before. This months had beers from Carolina Brewing Company and Trout River. The first month came with taster glasses and peanuts. I didn't eat the peanuts because I would die if I did but they seemed pretty cool.

Another thing I liked was the fact that they included fact sheets about the brewery they were sending you that month which also included recipes for food that paired well with the beers.

For $37.75 a month you get 12 beers. That's 4 styles and 3 of each beer. This would make the perfect gift for a buddy or family member who enjoys quality craft beer. In the immortal words of Cousin Eddie: Clark, that's the gift that keeps on giving throughout the entire year.

Cheers!

Just a Bit Excessive Huh?

So you know I don't usually bash the big boys because I think it's unnecessary but I saw this today at my local Walmart on the Westbank and thought to myself, "What a serious waste of space." I understand that Bud Light is a big seller but come on people this is ridiculous. Each and every spot on the shelf is valuable real estate and to give one brand of beer this much facing is just plain stupid. And just to clarify something: This isn't AB doing it, it's the local distributor. Come on Southern Eagle! This is just disgusting. And to think I thought craft beer sales were on the rise and macro sales were dropping. This shelf set would speak otherwise huh?

Cheers!

UPDATE: I was contacted by Southern Eagle and they informed me that in fact this was not a distributor shelf set but rather based on a Walmart planogram.
