Abita Save Our Shore Charity Pilsner
Unless you live in a plastic bubble you know about the oil spill down here in the Gulf of Mexico. It's bad. Real bad. And I'll be honest I haven't seen Kanye and other celebrities coming down here to help raise money. Whatever.
Anyways, Abita Brewing HAS stepped up in a great way to help raise money. The SOS(Save Our Shore)Charitable Pilsner according to Ron Swoboda of Crescent Crown will be "releasing at the end of July." 75 cents of each bottle sold will be donated by Abita "to the rescue and restoration of the environment, industry and individuals fighting to survive this disastrous oil spill."
According to Abita's website the SOS Pilsner is a unfiltered weizen pils. I think this is a fantastic idea and can't wait to try this brew!! Keep on the look out for it!
Cheers!

I think this is a fantastic idea, but by packaging it in 22 oz. bottles and making it a 7% abv beer, they're keeping themselves out of two markets that are also hit hardest by this crisis, Alabama and Mississippi. State laws regulate container size in Alabama to 16 oz, and ABV in Mississippi to 6%. Abita's missing out by forgetting their neighbors.
Dan,
Great point I didn't even think about Mississippi and Alabama not being able to get this beer.
